Description
The Museum is managed by the Association "Friends of the Damascus Museum of Lorsica".
The purpose of the Association is to spread and broaden the knowledge of local culture and traditions. It takes care of welcoming visitors and tourists, both individually and in groups; promotes and organizes events: exhibitions, conferences, presentations and congresses.
The Damascus Museum was built to bear witness to the gentle silk weaving industry which, for centuries, was the main activity of the town of Lorsica.
The visitor is offered a glimpse of life lived, through the ancient tools used for the various trades, as well as various examples for the "hand" processing of the precious yarn.
You can also get excited by walking through the significant “gallery of damasks and lampas”, touching the preciousness of the fabrics still produced today by the only company left in the village, the “Tessitura Demartini - since 500.
The museum is spread over the four floors of the building that houses it.
The last of these, the “noble” floor, presents a new exhibition every two months: of painting, sculpture, fabrics and often refers to the themes of local culture, but not only.
Things to know
The Museum is open every day, from 10 to 12 and from 15 to 18, by reservation only, in compliance with the legislation regarding Covid.
Also by appointment, guided tours of the village are organized in its most significant elements: the beautiful church from the 1700s, the historic center, the weaving mill, the Museum.
The Museum is interesting for anyone who is curious about
discover the peculiarities of the hinterland, for those who know or want to know the
value of artistic craftsmanship and locally produced fabrics. It is addressed
also to fans of local culture.
